ISRO's LVM-3 Rocket Successfully Completes OneWeb Constellation with 36 Satellites Placed into Orbit

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved another significant milestone with the successful launch of 36 satellites into orbit through its heavy-lift rocket, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III), also known as the LVM-3 rocket. The satellites, which were launched on March 25th, 2023, were part of the OneWeb constellation, a network of satellites designed to provide global internet connectivity.

The LVM-3 rocket, which has been in development since 2002, is India's most powerful launch vehicle and is capable of carrying payloads of up to 4,000 kg to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and 10,000 kg to Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The rocket is also equipped with advanced features such as the Multi-Object Tracking Radar (MOTR) system, which allows for real-time monitoring and tracking of multiple objects in space.

The successful launch of the 36 OneWeb satellites brings the total number of satellites in the OneWeb constellation to 648, which is enough to provide global coverage. OneWeb's satellites are designed to provide low-latency, high-speed internet connectivity to users around the world, including those in remote and rural areas.

The OneWeb constellation is a joint venture between the UK government and Indian telecommunications company Bharti Global, and the project aims to provide internet connectivity to the estimated 3.8 billion people who currently lack access to reliable broadband. The project is also expected to play a key role in bridging the digital divide and supporting economic development in underserved regions.

The successful launch of the OneWeb satellites is a testament to ISRO's capabilities and its commitment to advancing India's space program. It also underscores the importance of international collaborations in advancing space exploration and innovation.

In addition to the OneWeb constellation, ISRO has also been involved in several other notable space projects, including the Chandrayaan-2 mission to the moon, the Mars Orbiter Mission, and the successful launch of over 100 satellites on a single rocket in 2017.

Overall, the successful launch of the OneWeb satellites through the LVM-3 rocket marks another significant achievement for ISRO and its ongoing efforts to advance India's space capabilities. As the world continues to rely more on satellite technology for communication, navigation, and other critical functions, ISRO's contributions to the global space industry will become increasingly vital.
